Day 2: Amman to Jerash, Madaba, and Mt. Nebo

After a hearty breakfast, set off for a day filled with historical exploration. Start with Jerash, one of the best-preserved Roman cities outside of Italy. Walk among the impressive colonnaded streets, visit the grand temples, and explore the ancient theaters that still echo the sounds of performances from centuries past. The site is expansive, allowing you to immerse yourself in its history.

Next, head to Madaba, renowned for its spectacular mosaics, particularly the famous 6th-century mosaic map of Jerusalem located in St. George's Church. This city offers an insight into the Byzantine era's artistry. Don't miss the chance to explore other mosaics scattered throughout local churches and homes.

Your final stop for the day is Mt. Nebo, a significant biblical site where Moses is said to have viewed the Promised Land. The panoramic views from the mountain are breathtaking, and there is a small chapel that displays some beautiful mosaics, adding to the spiritual atmosphere of the site. Return to Amman for an overnight stay.

Day 3: Amman to Petra

After breakfast, depart for the legendary Petra, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Enter through the majestic Siq, a narrow gorge flanked by towering cliffs that leads you to the iconic Treasury (Al-Khazneh). This stunning facade is just a glimpse of what lies ahead.

As you explore Petra, you’ll discover a vast archaeological site featuring intricate rock-cut tombs, the Roman-style theater, temples, and colonnaded streets. Spend the day wandering through this ancient city, and take time to hike to the Monastery (Ad Deir), which offers a rewarding view at the end of a steep climb. After a fulfilling day, transfer to Aqaba for an overnight stay.

Enjoy two free days in Aqaba, a coastal city on the Red Sea known for its vibrant marine life and beautiful beaches. This is an excellent opportunity for water activities such as snorkeling, diving, or simply soaking in the sun on the beach. Consider an optional 2-hour jeep ride in the stunning Wadi Rum desert, where you can experience the vast landscapes and unique rock formations, or a relaxing 2-hour boat lunch cruise on the Red Sea.
